Combating hormonal breakouts can be such a challenge, however here are the three products I rely on around that time of the month. While skincare is so personal, this is just what I use and what works for me.
A good skincare routine is key first of all, but I know that doesn’t always stop your period from bringing you a new guest or two on your face. I use the Frank Body skincare line all month round and add these in as an extra line of defence.
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
This contains salicylic acid which helps to renew skin. It targets both the surface and deep down, while reducing redness and completely eliminating blemishes. This is more watery in consistency than gel-like, meaning it absorbs quickly. It doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky either.
I’d recommend only using once every other day to reduce possibly flaking and irritation until your skin builds up a tolerance. Also remember to use an SPF in the daytime after using a BHA.
Derma E Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask
I also use the Derma E face mask for about five minutes until it’s completely dry. The clay and charcoal in this helps clear out the pores, and the apricot seed powder provides a gentle exfoliation when removing it. The clay also helps to absorb excess oil and impurities. A good all rounder, especially if your skin is oily.
Full Coverage Concealer
If nothing else is working, my last option is to just cover it with Kat Von D’s Lock-It Concealer Creme. This lasts all day and completely hides anything you need it to hide (on your face, that is!). I wear shade Light Warm 07 (L7). It comes in 20 shades, plus a pure white, so if you can I fully recommend going to a counter to get matched.
